pdf  Paleogene of Turkmenistan (renewed scheme of zonal sequence and correlation)
The renewed Paleogene stratigraphic and correlative scheme of Turkmenistan comprising a part of the Caspian oil-gas region is presented. This scheme demonstrates the current state of Turkmenistan stratigraphy studying and the place of its stratons in the International Stratigraphic Scale. Regional zones by planktonic and benthic foraminifera are the biostratigraphic foundation of the scheme. For the first time the generalized data on nannoplankton are shown. The biostratigraphic criteria of establishing the lower and upper boundaries of the system and also stages are considered. The data on deposits composition, occurrence of the established horizons and also their paleontologic characteristic and correlation with the Paleogene subdivisions of the Tajik region and Northern Caucasus are presented.
Key words: Paleogene, Turkmenistan, zonal biostratigraphy, foraminifera, nannoplankton, correlation, petroleum potential.
