Organic matter of Domanik petroleum source rocks on the Chernyshev Ridge: composition, maturity and hydrocarbon potential (Timan-Pechora petroleum province)
Organic petrological and Rock-Eval pyrolysis studies were carried out to assess the petroleum generation potential of Domanik Formation of the Chernyshev Ridge (Pymvashor Creek). Organic matter content and generation potential value allocates Domanik Formation as good and excellent source rocks. Organic petrological studies have shown that the composition of organic matter is dominated by bituminite and its transformation products. Bioclasts and redeposited organic matter are rarely found. According to the bituminite reflectance data and Rock-Eval pyrolysis results, the degree of source rock organic matter maturity which indicates that the conditions of the main oil generation zone have been reached. The elemental composition and Rock-Eval data characterize type II kerogen, and its transformation ratio is about 25%. Keywords: Domanik Formation, petroleum source rock, organic matter maturity, hydrocarbon potential, Chernyshev Ridge, Timan-Pechora petroleum province. |

New data about the age of the Dershor Formation (Lower Devonian) on the Chernyshev swell (Timan-Pechora petroleum province)
Lithological and biostratigraphical studies of the stratotyp section of the Lower Devonian Dershor Formation, represented in outcrops in the north of the Chernyshev swell, have been carried out. In the section of the Dershor Formation, a sequence of five conodont associations of different taxonomic structure and age has been established: ass. I c Pelekysgnathus of Early Devonian age, ass. II c Lanea of Middle Lochkovian age, ass. III c Pandorinellina cf. optima of Middle Lochkovian age, ass. IV c Pandorinellina exigua cf. philipi of Late Lochkovian age and ass. V with Pandorinellina cf. paridens of the Late Lochkovian – Pragian age. The species Amydrotaxis cf. chattertoni, Oulodus astriatus, Ozarkodina cf. mashkovae, Zieglerodina cf. paucidentata and Pandorinellina cf. paridens were identified for the first time in the conodont fauna of the Dershor Formation. As a result of the conodonts study from this typical section of Dershor Formation, isolated in the volume of the Ovinparm regional stage, the problem of the presumably younger (Sotchemkyrt) age of the strata of the greater upper part of the Dershor Formation is identified. Keywords: conodont, stratotyp section, Lower Devonian, Dershor Formation, Lochkovian Stage, Ovinparm regional stage, Sotchemkyrt regional stage, Chernyshev swell, Timan-Pechora petroleum province. |

Lithofacial characteristics and organic matter geochemistry of the Devonian-Carboniferous section оf folded and thrust belt area of the Kosyu-Rogov Depression southeastern part (using Levogrubeyu-1 well data as reference source)
The results of study of the Middle-Upper Palaeozoic bioherm-shoal association in the east of the Timan-Pechora petroleum Basin (based on the Levogrubeyu-1 well description) are presented. The core lithological study allows distinguishing the facial analogues with the succession types of the Bolshaya Nadota carbonate association. It is supposed that the bioherm-shoal association demonstrates similar architecture along the all shelf border. Foraminifera and Conodont studies allow as to improve the biostratigraphic subdivision of the succession discovered by the borehole. The geochemical investigations reveal that the Devonian-Carboniferous rocks in the core samples disclose low hydrocarbon generation potential. On the other hand high hydrocarbon potential is supposed for the clayey-carbonate units of Middle-Late Frasnian age. Rock-Eval pyrolysis and the Conodont Alteration Index indicate a high level maturity of organic matter corresponding to the main gas generation zone (Ro > 1.5 %). Keywords: lithofacial study, organic matter, hydrocarbons, Upper Palaeozoic, Kosyu-Rogov Depression, Timan-Pechora petroleum basin. |

Silurian and Lower Devonian petroleum source rocks of the Chernov Ridge (Timan-Pechora Basin, Russia)
The article presents the results of geochemical research of Silurian and Lower Devonian sequences on the Chernov ridge. The main part of the section is represented by petroleum source rocks with (TOC concentrations of 0,1–0,5%). Petroleum source rocks with increased contents of organic matter (> 0,5%) belong to clay-carbonate intervals in Silurian part of the section and layers of bituminous dolomites in the Lower Devonian. The hydrocarbon composition of the saturated fraction of bitumen in the Silurian-Lower Devonian deposits show a sapropel organic matter, probably of a different genetic types – plankton and marin algae. The isotopic composition of organic carbon (?13С, ‰) of bitumen part (30,1–32,6‰) and kerogen component (30,9–31,1‰) confirms the sapropel genesis of organic matter. The level of catagenetic transformation, estimated by the conodont colour alteration index, indicates that the Silurian-Lower Devonian deposits are in the main zone of oil generation (subdivision of the catagenesis MK1-2). The process of hydrocarbon generation is confirmed by the presence of bitumen throughout the section of the Silurian and Lower Devonian sequences.

Organic matter in the Carbonaceous Middle Frasnian deposits of the Kosyu-Rogovaya Depression and Chernyshev Ridge (Timan-Pechora Basin)
The article presents the results of coal petrographical and geochemical research of carbonaceous Middle Frasnian sections on the Kosyu-Rogov Depression, the Chernyshev Ridge and the adjacent territories. The composition of organic matter, its catagenetic transformation and hydrocarbon potential are studied. For the sections of the Chernyshev Ridge, organic matter consists of a large amount of amorphous organic matter (kolloalginite), zooplankton (intraclasts) and components of the liptinite group (alginite, sporinite, cutinite) admixture. Redeposited humic detritus occur mainly in the sections of the Kosyu-Rogov depression, along with the matter of phytogenous and zoogenic origin. The catagenetic transformation of Middle Frasnian organic matter sections within the Chernyshev Ridge are in the stage MK2 (Ro – 0,65-0,85%) and has a high hydrocarbon potential. In the Kosyu-Rogov depression, the maturity of organic matter is increased to the stage of MK5-AK1 (Ro – 1,5-2,5%) and it has achieved its hydrocarbon potential. Based on the gamma-ray logging, the thickness of petroleum source rocks was estimated. Сalculations of the densities of the oil and gas migration of from Middle Frasnian Domanik-Sargay sequences were carried out. The maximum of hydrocarbon migration quantity are determined in the Kosyu-Rogov depression, where they are amount to 2291 thousand tons / km2 for oil and 750 million m3 / km2 for gas.
