| On the question of oil and gas perspectives in the central part of the Zarafshan Depression | |
| The article discusses the features of the geological and tectonic structure of the Zarafshan Depression, characterized by a pronounced block structure, wide development of regional faults and intersecting smaller transverse diagonal faults. In the structural section, two main tectonic elements are distinguished: Paleozoic and Mesozoic-Cenozoic structural levels. The Paleozoic structural stage is represented by intensively dislocated metamorphic sedimentary, intrusive and effusive rocks of a wide age range. The Mesozoic-Cenozoic structural stage includes weakly dislocated marine and strata of the Jurassic, Cretaceous, Paleogene, Neogene and Anthropogene. The main direction of further study of the prospects for oil and gas potential should be the determination of the configuration and nature of the systems of faults in the sedimentary cover to identify the migration paths of hydrocarbons and near-fault zones as an area of possible petroleum accumulation.
