|Prospects of oil and gas in the Kursh Gulf (Kaliningrad Region)|
|Recently, due to an objective reduction in the fund of oil-prospecting facilities on the onshore of the Kaliningrad Region, more and more attention has been paid to the study of the Baltic Sea, including the sea bays. The state is also helping to build up the oil potential of the Russian part of the Kaliningrad Region and to attract additional investors to it, initiating geological exploration in difficult-to-reach but certainly attractive regions of the Baltic oil-bearing region. One of these areas was the Kursh Gulf, whose prospects are confirmed by the opening of a number of oil fields in adjacent areas of land and sea, both in Russia and in neighboring Lithuania.
The results of seismic survey conducted in 2016-2017 are presented in the Kursh Gulf, and the quantification of localized resources in the investigated part of the offshore area, areas for further licensing are offered.

|Petroleum potential prospects of the Baltic Sea shelf|
|The interest in the study of petroleum potential prospects of the Baltic Sea shelf and the choice of priority exploration objects in this part of the region, including the offshore zones of Lithuania and Latvia, has been recently growing. Especially this evolution is connected with the recent successes of the LUKOIL oil company in the Russian sector of the Baltic, and the discovery of several oil fields in the recent years.
The information on the current state of geological and geophysical study of the region (primarily within the former Baltic Sea Soviet sector) is given on the basis of data analysis of the last years. The main results of shelf oil exploration in recent years are provided; the geological structure and petroleum potential are characterized; and the promising directions of work are proposed.

|Deposits in low-permeability carbonate reservoirs of Timan-Pechora province - their resource and reserves assessment|
|The sediments of the Upper Ordovician - Lower Devonian, Domanik - Tournasian and Upper Visean - Lower Permian carbonate oil and gas complexes of the Timan-Pechora oil and gas province are analyzed. Statistical analysis of the distribution of porosity and permeability values in these deposits is carried out, the share of low-permeability objects are identified. The prognostic resource estimate of oil in low permeability reservoirs of the region is performed. It is shown that 735 million tons of recoverable oil reserves can be associated with low-permeability carbonate reservoirs of these complexes within the Timan-Pechora province. 387 million tons of them were not considered by last (as of 1 January 2009) quantitative assessment of the total initial hydrocarbon resources. These resources can be considered as the reserve for raw material base growth of the Timan-Pechora province.

|The oil recovery factors and the dynamics of their changes in various petroleum complexes in Nenets Autonomous District|
|The oil recovery factors in the Nenets Autonomous District (Timan-Pechora petroleum province) and the dynamics of their changes as a whole on the region and for petroleum complexes separately are analyzed. The dynamics of opening deposits by number and size is tracked. Variability of values of oil recovery factors for proven (category АВС1) and inferred resources (category С2) is shown.

|Geothermal conditions of the Cambrian deposits (Baltic petroleum province, Kaliningrad region)|
|A wide range of temperatures was observed in the underground water of the Cambrian deposits of Kaliningrad region. The geothermal gradients also vary widely from minimum values in the south of the Kaliningrad region to the maximum values in the northeast of the region (Novoserebryanskoe, East Gorinskoe fields). No correlation has been found between temperature changes and the age of the crystalline basement, its composition, thickness of crust blocks and gravitational fields is typical for the Cambrian deposits of the region.
The possibility of use the thermal energy waters of the region for the national economic purposes is discussed. With this aim the values of formation temperatures were adjusted to a depth of 1500 m. In the Kaliningrad region they can be used to heat the soil, in animal agriculture, domestic hot water service and greenhouse farming.

|Analysis of the reliability of resource estimates of local objects before exploration|
|The analysis of reliability of resource estimates of local objects in the North-West of the Russian Federation has been carried out. Proven reserves coefficient calculations as well as that of drilling success and reliability of estimation of the localized resources for territories of Republic Komi, Nenets autonomous district and Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation have been performed. The way of factors’ change by years and by oil-bearing fields has been studied. The analysis confirms the necessity of considering the variability of the indicators given while estimating resources and planning of geological prospecting works.

|Complex paleotectonic analysis of conditions of forming the local objects prospective for oil: An example from the Kravtsovskoye field|
|The conditions of forming the local objects prospective for oil in the Kaliningrad region are analyzed by the example of the Kravtsovskoye oil field. In studying the history of tectonic development of local structures, the method of a thickness analysis is used as the basis for researches. This method is one of the most important methods of paleotectonic researches, it makes possible to give not only qualitative but also the quantitative estimation of tectonic movements. The results of conducted paleotectonic researches confirm the prolonged history of forming the oil traps of a dominating complex connected with the tectonic development of the whole Kaliningrad region. The major stage of forming the potential structures prospective for oil falls on the final stage of Caledonian tectogenesis.

|Geological and economic aspects of developing the hydrocarbon resource base, Kaliningrad oblast|
|The overwhelming majority (76%) of the Kaliningrad oblast reserve fund objects are characterized by the smallest localized recoverable hydrocarbon resources in not excess of 100 thousand t. These objects contain one third of total oil resources of identified and prepared structures of this region. Within the Kaliningrad region characterizing by the predominance of the smallest objects in the structure of the prospective resource base, the profitability of developing the considerable part of oil potential will depend on exploration efficiency (mainly on wildcat drilling success). Tax privileges are necessary for decreasing the profitability threshold of reserves and including a part of the resource base unattractive for investors in industrial turnover. Their volume must be determined individually by each object and must depend on oil cost and the cost price of its production. For this region, in which all producing oil is exported, the only essential direction of forming such privileges is a severance tax.
