|Southern-eastern part of Kaliningrad region - new openings and oil prospect perspectives|
|For a long time (until the mid-1980s), the territory of the eastern part of the Kaliningrad region was not considered among the promising directions for increasing the region's raw resource quantity. It was believed that the geological prerequisites of this region (low thickness of the sedimentary cover, remoteness from the axial most submerged part of the Kursh Depression with the optimum depth of burial of source rocks and other factors) do not contribute enough to the formation of oil accumulations. However, the subsequent discoveries of a number of oil fields made it possible to reconsider the views on the prospects of this area of the Russian Baltic Syneclise. The results of geological exploration work of recent years are considered. The example of the Ryazan accumulation (Kursh Depression Baltic Syneclise) gives a geological description of typical objects of oil prospecting, promising local uplifts and future research directions.

|Prospects of oil and gas in the Kursh Gulf (Kaliningrad Region)|
|Recently, due to an objective reduction in the fund of oil-prospecting facilities on the onshore of the Kaliningrad Region, more and more attention has been paid to the study of the Baltic Sea, including the sea bays. The state is also helping to build up the oil potential of the Russian part of the Kaliningrad Region and to attract additional investors to it, initiating geological exploration in difficult-to-reach but certainly attractive regions of the Baltic oil-bearing region. One of these areas was the Kursh Gulf, whose prospects are confirmed by the opening of a number of oil fields in adjacent areas of land and sea, both in Russia and in neighboring Lithuania.
The results of seismic survey conducted in 2016-2017 are presented in the Kursh Gulf, and the quantification of localized resources in the investigated part of the offshore area, areas for further licensing are offered.

|Petroleum potential prospects of the Baltic Sea shelf|
|The interest in the study of petroleum potential prospects of the Baltic Sea shelf and the choice of priority exploration objects in this part of the region, including the offshore zones of Lithuania and Latvia, has been recently growing. Especially this evolution is connected with the recent successes of the LUKOIL oil company in the Russian sector of the Baltic, and the discovery of several oil fields in the recent years.
The information on the current state of geological and geophysical study of the region (primarily within the former Baltic Sea Soviet sector) is given on the basis of data analysis of the last years. The main results of shelf oil exploration in recent years are provided; the geological structure and petroleum potential are characterized; and the promising directions of work are proposed.

|Study of fracturing in carbonate reservoirs of Timan-Pechora petroleum province using side-view seismic location|
|An overview of side-view seismic location technology carried out to study fracturing of the geological environment is presented. The results of special reprocessing of seismic data using this technology based on regional seismic profile within the studied region (Komi Republic territory) are given. This research allowed us to identify areas with different fracturing intensity in the sedimentary cover, mark local objects and assess their prospects in terms of distribution and extent of fracturing. The potential oil and gas resources were estimated in these objects; and the most attractive of them were selected for further study.

|The composition, structure and crust of the basement of the Kaliningrad region, as well as the level of study by deep drilling are characterized. The void space of the rocks in the composition of the basement and some signs that could indicate its possible petroleum potential are investigated.

|Unlicensed area of Timan-Pechora province: evaluation of investment attractiveness of local objects|
|On the basis of the results of geological and economic evaluation of subsoil blocks within the Timan-Pechora province the most significant determinants of commercial interest of subsoil users and perspectives of involving oil resources in the study and subsequent development are investigated, i.e. structure of the resource base from geological point of view (size and depth of occurrence of the projected objects, productivity of host deposits), the availability of transport and production infrastructure, and the level of the tax burden. The influence of some of these factors is subject to regulation. The possible ways of increasing the investment attractiveness of oil assets that can stimulate licensing process in the region are described.

|The oil recovery factors and the dynamics of their changes in various petroleum complexes in Nenets Autonomous District|
|The oil recovery factors in the Nenets Autonomous District (Timan-Pechora petroleum province) and the dynamics of their changes as a whole on the region and for petroleum complexes separately are analyzed. The dynamics of opening deposits by number and size is tracked. Variability of values of oil recovery factors for proven (category АВС1) and inferred resources (category С2) is shown.

|Evaluation of development-well success ratio and approving factor of local structures’ resources in Nenets Autonomous District|
|The development-well success ratio is used for quantifying of hydrocarbon resources and planning for oil and gas exploration, which is determined as the ratio of the number of discovered fields to the total number of promising areas drilled in the region. The accuracy of estimates of success ratio depends on the past experience. However, in practice, the success ratio is assumed to be evaluated correctly that leads to fatal errors in calculations.
The new approach to the assessment of development-well success ratio and its applying for practical purposes, based on the "game theory" (part of the theory of probability) is offered.

|Silurian pelitic layers in Kaliningrad region - a possible target for hydrocarbon prospecting|
|The oil source layers of the Silurian deposits in the Kaliningrad region, allocated due to geochemical data based on the distribution of dispersed organic matter, were studied. The catagenesis grade of these layers was examined using different methods. It was supposed that oil will be the main type of fluid during their possible development. The scope of generation and the residual potential of shale layers of the region were determined; perspective areas for research were outlined.

|Current and future development of the hydrocarbons resources prospects in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug|
|The dynamics of official hydrocarbon resources in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug showes on the one and steady increase in initial total hydrocarbons resources and on the other hand a sharp reduction in the size of new discoveries and prospects. Most likely the reason is the other estimation of the initial total hydrocarbon resources, fact confirmed by the results of the stimulation. Despite a marked reduction in the current industrial stocks, short-term prospects of oil and gas in the region should be associated primarily with reserves current inventory.

|Research of organic matter of domanic deposits – comparison of the results in view of petroleum potential evaluation of the Silurian deposits of Kaliningrad region|
|A comparative analysis of the results of the study of organic matter of the Silurian domanic deposits (the Kaliningrad region) is carried out by different methods used for evaluation of petroleum generation potential of rocks during regional geochemical research.
The reasonable estimate of the Silurian domanic deposits of the Kaliningrad region can be achieved in case of using of direct physical-chemical methods of organic matter research.

|Geochemistry of organic matter and hydrocarbon generation in the Lower Silurian deposits of the Kaliningrad region|
|For the first time the using of confocal fluorescent microscopy was undertaken for the study of sedimentary rocks from oil-and-gas bearing sequences. The first experience has shown that this device can be successfully used for the identification of bituminous components’ distribution in rocks, and for making their quality and quantitative estimation. The results showed wide opportunities for this method to be used in lithological research and petroleum exploration.
