Currently almost two-thirds of the Russian recoverable petroleum reserves refer to hard-to-recover, and their share in the balance of reserves increases rapidly. The new approved "Guidelines for the use of classification of oil and combustible gas reserves and resources" provide clarifications on terminology and categories of hard-to-recover resources. The factual data proved that their share in production is significantly lower than the share in reserves. Methods of stimulation and ways to accelerate their development are described.

pdf  Energy analysis’ for the oil and gas enterprises - an example of JSC "Yakutsk fuel and energy company" (Russia)
Energy analysis is an important component of determining the economic efficiency of oil and gas producing companies. The article discusses the background energy analysis in the USSR and later in Russia and in Western countries. Particularly of the place of energy analysis in the reporting system of the enterprise is presented. The direction of improving corporate reporting to address the problem of determining the energy efficiency of energy production is marked. Proposes a set of energy efficiency indicators and their relationship with financial coefficients, given the method of calculation. Calculation of the proposed indicators on the example of fuel-energy company JSC "YATEC" (Russia) is given.

The idea of using energy analysis for the purpose of evaluation of company’s activities in the oil and gas industry is proposed. A brief historical reference is given, the prerequisites for formation of the idea of energy analysis in the Soviet Union and countries with market economies in the last century are provided. The urgency of the energy analysis is substantiated, some directions for using energy analysis tools are suggested. The basic definitions, formulas, calculations of energy efficiency of hydrocarbon production are given.

pdf  Resource potential of heavy oil fields in European Russia
In the "old" oil-producing regions in the European part of the Russian Federation, the main source of mineral resources renewal is heavy oils. The monitoring of the mineral resources for the period 2006-2011 revealed the disproportion between the content of heavy oil in reserves and its shares in production for regions of the Russian Federation. The positive trends in the development of heavy oil fields are marked; and the measures to accelerate the pace of its cost-effective development are formulated.

The resource potential of heavy oils of the Russian Federation (RF) is considered. The peculiarities of resource base of the RF petroleum provinces possessing by the considerable reserves of heavy oils are characterized. The basic problems connected with developing the resource base of heavy oils (introducing the specific technologies of production, processing and recovering valuable associated components) are analyzed. The prospective directions of using commodity products from heavy oils are shown. The peculiarities of determining the commercial importance, geological-economic and cost estimation of fields of heavy and high-viscous oils as complex raw materials and also tax privileges in developing are elucidated.

The peculiarities of the new «Classification of reserves and forecast resources of oil and combustible gases» which establishes the unified for the Russian Federation principles of differentiation of hydrocarbon fields with respect to their geological study, development degree and commercial importance are considered. Its major peculiarity is orientation to economic criteria. In this new classification, as in other international classifications, reserves profitable for development are considered as commercial reserves. The profitability of developing oil and gas reserves can be determined only on the basis of their economic estimation. The results of an economic estimation allow have an idea of the size of commercial hydrocarbon reserves of the oil-gas-producing companies at the beginning of carrying out such estimation. The new classification is approximated by its criteria to the existing international classifications

At the present time commercial developing the fields of natural bitumens on the territory of the Russian Federation is of interest to the State as well as to private investors. Though since the year 2007 the State is granting tax privileges on developing the fields of natural bitumens, private investors are not ready to their scale development. In accordance with the new Classification of reserves and resources of oil and combustible gases which will be put into operation since January 1, 2009, the resource base of hydrocarbons is formed of commercial fields. The Russian resource base of natural bitumens has yet to be studied from the new market positions. The calculation of criterion economic indices for ranking the fields of natural bitumens on value of their reserves, for putting up licensing tracts for auctions, for choosing the most prepared for development tracts calls for taking into consideration a set of peculiarities. A united technique of determining the economic efficiency of developing the fields of natural bitumens is necessary for solving these problems. The modern analysis of resource base of natural bitumens can be performed on the basis of this technique.

pdf  Economic efficiency of VNIGRI’s innovations in high viscosity oil and natural bitumen fields development
High viscosity oil and natural bitumen are hard to recover hydrocarbon reserves which differ from conventional oil in increased viscosity in vivo and in complex composition. Apart from hydrocarbons they usually contain such valuable hetero-organic compounds as naphthenic acids, sulfonic acids, esters and ethers, rare non-ferrous metals in industrial concentrations. Special production technology, transportation and reprocessing are required for industrial development of high viscosity oil and natural bitumen fields, considering their specific features. All this requires extra energy and other material costs. The specialists working with VNIGRI were actively participating in the solution of this problem. The results of these studies have not lost their relevance even today. Moreover, using the experience gained, it is possible to switch to the industrial development of high viscosity oil and natural bitumen field much faster and more efficiently, given the current favorable market situation of hydrocarbons.
