pdf  Geology of Novosibirskian Islands – a basis for interpretation of geophysical data on the Eastern Arctic shelf of Russia
The updated synthesis of geological data, including recent field and laboratory data, has allowed us to improve and add the substantiation of evolution scenario of the Phanerozoic geological of the vast area of the Arctic Ocean passive margin. Onshore litho-tectonic units mapped on the islands vary in their hydrocarbon potential. The interpretation of geophysical data has allowed to project the litho-tectonical structures, known on the islands, to the offshore area and thereby to enhance the evaluation of oil and gas resources on the shelf of the Laptev and East Siberian Sea.
The formation of the continental crust in the Novosibirskian Islands was completed at the end of the Neoproterozoic - in Baikalian tectonic epoch. This vast array of continental crust was developing during the Phanerozoic in different geodynamic regimes reconstructed by changing sedimentary environments, magmatic activities and episodes of tectonic deformation. The most important post-Baikalian event was the formation and collisional closer of the Angayucham basin (South Anyui). The result was a formation of Anyui-Lyakhovskaya ophiolite suture and Late Cimmerian fold-and-thrust systems in mountainous areas on the continent and in the tectonic basement of the shelf. During collision and postcollisional orogeny in the area of Anjou Islands and Lyakhovsky Islands, there has been a transtension on the islands of De Long, documented by trap magmatism. The formation of modern offshore sedimentary basins in the Late Cretaceous (?) - Cenozoic is associated with pre break-up rifting and spreading in the Eurasian oceanic Basin.
