| Early Carboniferous paleosoils of the north-east of the European platform and their relationship with petroleum potential | |
| Modern research in the field of paleosoils studies has shown that most soils of the Early Carboniferous belong to the azonal and intrazonal sequences. The predominant paleosoils of the humid sequences (marsh paleosoils) are associated with the development of coal basins. The discovery of Stigmaria sp. remains in situ on the territory of the Pechora sedimentation basin in Early Visean section proved the development of paleosurface formations of the north-east of the European Platform in the Early Visean, which is reflected in the description of individual sections of sedimentation basin wells In the early carboniferous, humic paleosoils (marsh paleosoils) predominate, often associated with the development of coal basins, i.e. with the main objects of accumulation and conservation of organic matter in terrigenous strata. The identification of paleosurface levels in terrigenous sections clarifies the duration of subaerial mining of rocks, the quality and quantity of organic matter stored in them, and thereby the quality of the petroleum properties of the terrigenous strata. The duration of subaerial breaks determines the formation of secondary reservoirs in the underlying sediments.
