| Sequence stratigraphy in studying the structure of sedimentary covers | |
| It is shown that sequence stratigraphy is based on the fundamental conceptions of stratigraphy and lithology. The achievement of this new sphere of knowledge consists in discovering and deciphering the sedimentation structure of an elementary cell of over-rock level of sedimentary systems - sequence, in determining the decisive role of eustatic events in sedimentation cyclic recurrence and in the priority of obliquely laminated stratigraphy over flat-parallel. The hierarchy of a geological sedimentary system is proposed; the considerable opportunities of sequence stratigraphy in developing sedimentation models and in the forecast of oil-gas reservoirs are shown
