| Formation history of anticlinal trap structures and oil and gas potential of sedimentary megacomplexes of Western Siberia | |
| In the West Siberian petroleum province, the main hydrocarbon reserves and resources are concentrated in Jurassic-Cretaceous strata of the sedimentary cover, localized in sandstones reservoirs and controlled by anticline structures. Furthermore, productive stages vary significantly and become younger from south to north. Research conducted at the IPGG SB RAS has shown that the significant differences in the petroleum potential of sedimentary strata in various regions of Western Siberia are largely related to the formation characteristics and modern structure of anticline structures–traps for hydrocarbon accumulations. The petroleum potential of sedimentary megasystemes, and individual reservoirs in various parts of the West Siberian Basin is related to their geological structure, the position in the section and the depth of source rocks, disjunctive tectonics, and other factors. At the same time, given that the overwhelming majority of oil and gas fields in the West Siberian petroleum province are confined to anticlinal structures, and the levels of oil and gas-bearing capacity are directly related to their expression in the relief of various stratigraphic levels, this factor is one of the most important.
