Oil potential prospects for Paleozoic carbonates in the Russian sector of Barents Sea | |
Seismic data analysis gave us an opportunity to outline the possible areas of carbonate scarps development. There are mainly confined to steps and terraces of the ancient continental shelf and fringe non-compensated deepwater basins of the East Barents Trough and adjacent depressions. The conditions favorable for the development of carbonate clayey oil source rocks as well as oil bearing sedimentary traps in the form of reefs, confined to marginal scarps of carbonate platform and to the inner carbonate shelf used to exist in the East Barents Sea Trough and its borders. Key words: the Barents Sea, East Barents trough, carbonate scarp, reef, carbonate shelf, wave field anomalies. |
