Tournaisian deep-water deposits of the Usa River basin (Polar Urals) | |
The article presents new data of detailed lithological and paleontological study, and results of stratigraphical investigations of the Tournaisian deep-water deposits of the Malaya Usa River section (Polar Urals). The section is biostratigraphically characterized by conodonts, foraminifers, fishes, and corals. The traces of the Mid-Tournaisian (Lower Alum Shale) Global Event are distinguished. The lithological marker (transgressive clayey beds), biostratigraphical data (FAD of Siphonodella crenulata conodonts), and isotope anomaly (negative shift of б13С) allowed to confidently recognize the Event. The new data fill the gap in the stratigraphical characteristics of the deposits of the base of the Carboniferous System of the Polar Urals and are important for detailing correlation of the tectonically complex sections within the Vorkuta oil and gas bearing complex of the eastern part of the Timan-Pechora Basin. In addition, there are quite rare taxa in the complex of conodonts, which justify the additional paleontological interest to the present work.
