pdf Biohermal structures exploration of the Pre Upper Permian sedimentary rocks of the northern part of the Buzachi Peninsula and the neighbouring shelf area of the Caspian Sea
A detailed lithological and stratigraphical analysis of poorly studied Pre Upper Permian sedimentary section uncovered by deep wells on the Buzachi Peninsula is carried out. The characteristic lithological strata are distinguished. Well sections were correlated. It is established that the accumulation of sediments occurred in marine conditions, accompanied at some stages by volcanic activity with the outpouring of magma of andesitic composition. The presence of biomorphic limestones containing numerous remains of reef-building organisms is characteristic. In the composition of the strata, along with the facies of shallow carbonate deposits associated with the destruction of carbonate structures, there are relatively deep-water clay-carbonate formations. Such facies take part in the structure of reef strata. Particularly noteworthy is the presence of coarse-grained biomorphic-detrital limestones, usually composing the deposits of pre-reef plumes, as well as fine - and micro-grained horizontally layered chemogenic limestones, typical of the deposits of bays and lagoons, fenced off from the waves of the open sea by organogenic or volcanic structures. In the upper limestone-mudstone column, there are tubiphytic clastic limestones, which are formations of plumes accumulated in deep-water conditions at the foot of carbonate ledges composed of tubiphytic bioherms belonging to Kasimov and Assel time. The results obtained, by analogy with the adjacent areas of the Caspian Basin, allow us to count on the detection of biohermal structures in the Northern part of the Buzachi Peninsula and the adjacent Caspian sea shelf area, which can become objects of petroleum exploration.

pdf Upper Triassic gas bearing carbonate formation - Western Caucasus
A detailed litho-stratigraphical analysis of carbonate sequences of the Upper Triassic Western Caucasus was performed. The characteristic of sections bored by deep wells in various tectonic zones is given. Their correlation was performed. The boundaries of the carbonate formation distribution are determined. Analysis of the materials of testing operations in wells indicates the possibility of forming independent gas accumulations in this structures. The morphology of reservoirs in low-permeable carbonate will be largely controlled by the development sites of secondary reservoirs connected by zones of recent tectonic fracturing. The zone of possible development of rift structures has been determined.

Тhe structural analysis performed allows to clarify the picture of the regional tectonics and to offer reliable and consistent models of oil and gas formation in the Northwest Caucasus orogenic area. Disclosure of regional structure patterns and tectonic evolution of the study area could allows the identification of new promising areas and the successful search of new accumulations of petroleum resources.
