The long term development of the Russian oil resources | |
Under current condition of active oil reserves’ (ready to be produced) reduction in the developing fields of conventional production areas the Arctic shelf projects and in the projects of hard-to-recover reserves can be considered as priority on the long term among the five areas of the hydrocarbon estimated resources. Both areas are characterized by highly developed technological infrastructure and promote the development of related industries.
Hydrocarbon potential of the Arctic shelf is of high strategic importance for Russia. Its huge potential is confirmed by the presence of giant and large discoveries in the Barents and Kara Seas. Oil and gas potential of unconventional sources in Russia has not been fully evaluated yet, but it exceeds the volume of currently developing hydrocarbon deposits.
Conclusions about the need to regulate exploration on these areas and their support under the current economic conditions are presented. The pace of development of the two directions will depend on scientific support, technical progress and market conditions.

Deposits in low-permeability carbonate reservoirs of Timan-Pechora province - their resource and reserves assessment | |
The sediments of the Upper Ordovician - Lower Devonian, Domanik - Tournasian and Upper Visean - Lower Permian carbonate oil and gas complexes of the Timan-Pechora oil and gas province are analyzed. Statistical analysis of the distribution of porosity and permeability values in these deposits is carried out, the share of low-permeability objects are identified. The prognostic resource estimate of oil in low permeability reservoirs of the region is performed. It is shown that 735 million tons of recoverable oil reserves can be associated with low-permeability carbonate reservoirs of these complexes within the Timan-Pechora province. 387 million tons of them were not considered by last (as of 1 January 2009) quantitative assessment of the total initial hydrocarbon resources. These resources can be considered as the reserve for raw material base growth of the Timan-Pechora province. Izhma-Pechora depression - Ordovician, Silurian and Devonian reservoirs of the Dzhebol step | |
The still understudied Dzhebol step is the "oldest oil & gas" area belonging to the Timan-Pechora province with various types of reservoirs located in the Paleozoic sedimentary cover. The study showed that most promising sections hydrocarbons searching are Ordovician, Silurian and Devonian.

Geological and economic characteristics as a basis for evaluation of petroleum production prospects in Eastern Siberia | |
The hydrocarbon resources and petroleum production prospects in Eastern Siberia are characterized from the geological and economic positions. The relationship between investment projects and structure of resource base is analyzed. It is shown that the amount of proven oil reserves within the region does not provide projected production volumes and filling of the Eastern Siberia - Pacific Ocean pipeline by oil. The extensive exploration is required to increase active reserves. The large-scale development of gas resources is only possible providing the solution of the problem of disposing of the helium, which content is unique in the region.
